![]() ![]() Surely there is a great story in big data challenges of finding optimum travel routes. The descriptions Kayak’s technology are desultory and simplistic. Nor do we gain much insight into the role of technology - or the technology business - in our larger culture. We get almost no glimpse into the technical and business challenges of building and running Kayak. We learn very little about online travel space. The puzzle of A Truck Full of Money is that Kidder never dives deeply into the world of Kayak, or that of technology startups. The Boston technology world has been under-explored in comparison to the Bay Area tech scene. Paul English is a colorful entrepreneur and technologist. Kayak is an incredible technology company success story. The “truck full of money” in the title refers to $1.8 billion dollars that Priceline paid for Kayak in 2012. ![]() Plot: 3 Again, it's hard to review this book because it feels like two different books jammed together. They're all developed with much more logical nuance than Martha herself eventually gets. Martha's extended family play a large role, and it was really lovely to see how her perspective on each family member evolved and changed as she grew up and saw the world through different lenses. The auxiliary characters are developed well and add much needed context and clarity to the story. Despite it moving through time in a nonlinear fashion, the Martha portrayed at the beginning of the book feels like an entirely different character than by the end of the story, and not in a good way. Really, everything about this book was better in the first half. Overall: 3Ĭharacters: 3 The characters are all much more developed and compelling in the first half of the book. At 40, she's feeling lost on what she has to show for her life and what she'll do next. Martha has been married twice, neither time happily. ![]() She's often on the outs with her family, except her sister, but she's preoccupied with lots of kids to raise. Overview: Martha is unhappy a lot of the time. ![]() ![]() Funny how certain unusual aspects of one's childhood last deep into adulthood, perhaps forever. I remember the above because even to this day I sometimes quote these responses to myself (in a non-crazy way) when I don't want to do something. Thus, Red Hen every so often asks three other animals if they will help her with such and such a task, to which she always receives the following replies: ![]() ![]() I do recall the basic plot for this, however, and in fact remember more about this title than most books read during my pre-teens. Despite remembering little about this tale now, I think rating it five stars equates to how much I enjoyed this story when I read it numerous times as a child. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you have questions about what happened to Abby at the end of the game and what her ending might mean for the future, we’ve broken down some of the key moments in the final act of the game.Ībby and Ellie exist as reflections of each other for most of the game, both trapped in a cycle of violence that won’t end until one of them is dead - or the cycle is broken. ![]() Just people who need to deal with what they’ve done in the course of this grim story. By the end of the game, there’s no clear winner. ![]() And while the conflict does eventually reach a gruesome conclusion, things aren’t quite so clear cut. Joel’s death at Abby’s hand is the game’s most shocking scene, but what happens after this inciting event sets off a chain reaction that leads Ellie and Abby to a violent confrontation in post-apocalyptic Seattle, and it’s one of the bloodiest tales of revenge ever put in a video game. Her name is Abby ( played brilliantly by Laura Bailey) and the first thing you watch her do in the game is kill Joel, one of the most beloved characters in the series. The biggest twist of all? The second playable character who ends up sharing top billing with Ellie. Not only does the game’s ending leave a lot open to interpretation but it also features quite a few big twists throughout its 20+ hour story campaign.
